Precious Metals
We supply the following materials of this group:
- Iridium
- Osmium
- Palladium
- Rhodium
- Ruthenium
Precious metals have a particularly high resistance to corrosion. Based on the structure of the electronic band of the metals only copper, silver, and gold are considered as precious metals. In a broader sense and referring to the electrochemical series, metals with a positive potential, compared to the hydrogen´s standard electrode are ranked among precious metals or semi-precious metals. This means that these metals do not react with hydrochloric acid.
Possible applications could include, for example electrotechnology, chemical engineering, medical engineering and in the jewellery making industry. Examples of individual applications might be the use of iridium-ruthenium and iridium-nickel compounds for use in production of relay contacts or iridium in the production of ignition plugs. For instance, osmium is found in catalysts. The same applies also to palladium (often in combination with platinum). Apart from other uses, palladium is also used for medicinal engineering. Typical applications of ruthenium are catalysts, relay contacts, and ingredients of alloys used for spring tips.
